Q&A: Magic Muffin

Q&A: Magic Muffin

April 25th, 2008

Oui, owner of the up-and-coming club The Tube and a DJ since August 2005, is spinning electro and house alongside the other “angels” on the last Friday of the month. See +nightlife page 24.

Why the name Magic Muffin?

Well, actually there are hundreds of different names! But I guess I pick and choose depending on the kind of music. I wanted to use the word magic as well as something that people could eat to get real happy. So we have Magic Muffin. And plus, the M alliteration sounds good together.

What kind of music do you enjoy spinning the most?

Definitely electro. When I throw my own parties or I’m doing gigs at the clubs, I stick to electro. However, if I’m DJing at a hotel or something then I get a little deep house, jazz-ish.

Is it hard being a female DJ?

Well, no not really. Especially now, when female DJs are in high demand.

Do you feel threatened?

Actually no, not at all. I actually look up to some real good ones like DJ Nacardia who’s made it real big. There’s also DJ Pitchy who I consider very good and like a senior to me.

What’s the highlight of the upcoming Charlie’s Angels theme party?

Well, besides the fact that you’re going to see a lot of girls dressed like the Angels, you’ll also have three different DJs playing three different types of music. I will be coming on at around midnight playing some serious electro and house for the folks to dance the night away.

What do you hate most about being a DJ?

The most annoying thing would probably be the men who keep bugging you on the stand. Or sometimes people who just can’t seem to quit with the song requests—I always try but you can’t please everybody.

What do you love most about being a DJ?

Watching the crowd dancing away, enjoying your music.
