Q&A: Jeff T

Q&A: Jeff T

July 20th, 2007

Jeff T is Danish, but he’s Thai at heart. He loves the blues, is a member of the Soi Dog Blues Band and as the owner of Tokyo Joes’s Bar and Restaurant, he is the driving force behind this weekend’s Bangkok Blues Festival (see +music this page).

Blues 101:
Blues has its roots in Africa, and America’s slavery period, and is generally considered the grandfather of what we now call rock and jazz. If you’re a rock fan or a jazz head, you’re already familiar with most of the elements of the blues.

Why blues?
Blues music is highly emotional. It has to come from inside, you have to feel the music and if you’re lucky or good or both, your audience will feel that in your music.

Why you?
More than 20 years ago I heard BB King and my musical tastes changed completely from that day forward.

Why go?
First if you don’t listen to the blues, you should come to experience it once. You should also see the quality of the blues music available in Thailand played by Thai musicians. Finally this festival is for you if you love live music.
