Q&A: Jason Young
Q&A: Jason Young
October 2nd, 2007The Comeback Kid
Well known as a teen pop singer, Jason Young is making a comeback after disappearing from the TV scene for several years. This September, he is on the stage as Parnthep in the musical Banlang Mek, which enjoyed great success a few years ago.
Is performing on stage much more difficult than your normal singing?
Yes, it is. Singers usually narrate stories through their songs, but the story is often happening to someone else. But with musicals, we sing from the first person perspective so the feeling must come from within. [Director] Boy can tell; he knows when our singing really comes from the heart and when it doesn’t. It’s difficult, but I like it.
Do you enjoy going to the theater?
I was not so familiar with it originally. But when I was studying in the US I had the chance to go and I’ve enjoyed going since then. Everything is live; the actors have great talent, and it feels magical.
What do you like the most in this production?
Everything. Boy is very professional. The production team are experts. And during this musical, I had the chance to work with Nok Sinchai, Kob Songsit, Duke Panudech, Moo Klod and other great actors. We had a lot of fun working together.
Any plan after this?
Not yet. For the last couple of months we had to rehearse every day so I didn’t have time to think about the future beyond this project yet. I’m very dedicated to this musical right now. But, of course, I’ll stay in the entertainment business for the fans.
Do you want to do anything other than acting in your career?
I just want to stick around in this business. I studied in film production, and I came back to work as an assistant director and acting coach, which is still in the entertainment field. I love acting more, though. Everyone was asking me when I would come back into the spotlight, and Banlang Mek came just at the right time. For behind-the-scene works, I’ll wait until I have more experience. I’m not in any rush.
What is the different between previous Banlang Mek performances and this show?
There are some similarities because Nok, Kob, Duke and Moo are still the main characters. But the characters of Nok’s kids have changed and the direction of the play has changed. New songs were added and there are other minor changes, which makes the story more interesting than the previous one.
