Q&A: Hubert Trimbach
Q&A: Hubert Trimbach
August 29th, 2008For nearly four centuries, the Trimbach family has been making wines in the French region of Alsace, and their aromatic whites are among the world’s best. Here co-owner Hubert talks about his favorite grape: riesling.
Three words to describe your wines?
Elegant, Pure, Complex
What is so special about riesling wine?
Riesling, especially from Alsace, has such grace, elegance and a certain amount of power. It has the ability to be made in a dry style, as well as sweet due to its acidity and complexity.
How is your wine different from other Alsatian producers?
At Trimbach, we focus on doing things in a way that allows for the purity of the fruit to shine. We are often the last domaine to release our wines, as we take the time to produce wines that are elegant, complex and focused but also have the ability to age gracefully. In addition, we are fortunate to have many of the best vineyards in the Alsace region.
Which wine are you most proud of?
The crown jewel in our family’s vineyards is the Clos Sainte Hune, which is often described as the “King” of riesling in Alsace.
Which of your wines would you drink with Thai food?
For lighter salads, I suggest pinot blanc, but for the heavier dishes such as lobster or prawns, the oilier pinot gris is lovely. Gewurztraminer has lovely lychee and lime notes that lend it well to more aromatic dishes as well. Of course, riesling has the ability to be served for a majority of the dishes.
What’s the secret to choosing the right bottle of wine?
Make sure Trimbach is on the label.
BK Magazine is: urban, honest, opinionated and fun. Which of your wines is right for us?
Riesling, of course.
