Q&A: Frankye Kelley

March 18th, 2008

An international performer with three CDs under her belt, Frankye Kelley is the Bamboo Bar’s latest addition. Her current project is a fourth music album: a tribute to the famous jazz singer and pianist, Shirley Horn.

Stupidest trend: Men wearing their pants down around their hips

In 20 years: I will be singing jazz

All time favorite song: “Magic In The Air,” a song I wrote while on tour in Japan after seeing Mt. Fuji appear like magic in the air

Happiest moment: Every moment is my happiest moment

Funeral music: “I’ll Be Seeing You”

Last thing that made me stop and think: I was taking the short boat ride to the Oriental Bangkok gym facilities on the other side of the river and I thought, what a beautiful place and, yes, I am in Bangkok

Favorite sound/noise: The sound of laughter

Idol: The great Sarah Vaughan, one of the world’s greatest jazz singers

Would like to be remembered as: A wonderful jazz singer whose songs and music made all who heard them happy!
