How did your career as a DJ get started?
As a young kid I was totally into dance music, so my whole career has been driven by my love for music.
Is it difficult to be original and different from the next DJ?
To be honest it’s not difficult to be different—everybody is different from each other. So I do what I like and don’t look to other people’s careers or music styles or what they’re doing! It’s always a struggle, though, with your own vision and taste and skills.
What did you listen to growing up?
I listened to all kinds of music, but I preferred dance music from the US. Nowadays you really can’t tell who it is or where they are from, and that’s good.
Some people think DJs aren’t musicians, since they don’t play an instrument or sing. What is your reaction to that statement?
I think it’s the same discussion we had in the 60s, because back then people described the Beatles and the Rolling Stones as playing “brainless” music. I can imagine it’s a bit weird to see DJs sell out concerts, but times are changing!
Angela Merkel or Hillary Clinton?
For sure, Hillary, I think she’s a remarkable woman, and will probably be the first female American President.
