Q&A: DJ Kentaro

Q&A: DJ Kentaro

April 4th, 2008

He’s been experimenting on the decks since the age of 13. A new international endeavor brings this man from Japan to the decks of 808. See +nightlife page 25.

If not a DJ, what would you be?

Not sure, a psychologist? I studied psychology in uni.

What’s the most challenging part about your job?

Being on tour. I try to find something different to keep me from becoming bored of it.

What’s the most rewarding?

Winning DMC was a very memorable thing. Having a debut album from my most favorite label in the world was very rewarding as well. And also, (but not all of the time) sharing super huge stages with big artists and hanging out backstage with them is an exciting thing Most of the time, we start talking about collaboration ideas—which usually end up happening.

What would you like to be remembered as?

A hero like Hiro Nakamura.

Where do you like to spin the most and why?

Japan and Europe are always home to me. Especially cities like Tokyo, Sendai, Osaka, Yokohama, London, Manchester, Glasgow, New Castle and Bristol where I get looked after by great friends. It’s always fun to go to those places.

What’s your happiest moment?

When I’m chilling with friends, down in Koh Tao, scuba diving, eating good food and finding great tunes!
