Q&A: Daryl Lloyd

August 8th, 2008

It’s the new in-thing in town and Daryl Lloyd, director, has loads of reasons to back it up. Listen to them at www.ubradio.net or see them live at 808, see +nightlife, page 20.

What’s the idea behind UB Radio?

The main function of UB Radio is to find, nurture and promote new homegrown talent and bring it to a world-focused platform in order to be recognized.

What kind of music do you play?

Strictly underground and no commercial music which is found on the majority of FM and internet radio stations. We break down our programming into genres: house, progressive,
d ‘n’b, break beat, minimal, electro, hip hop, alternative hip hop, Dub, reggae, techno, Mash-Up & electronic. Generally we play two to three hours per genre before blending out of one and into another.

What sets you apart from other radio stations around town?

There are no other stations coming out of Bangkok that play such a vibrant mix of underground music. Also, I don’t know of any other FM or internet radio stations promoting local DJ talent as strongly as we do.

Do you feature special DJs?

All our DJs are special in their own right, we have hand picked the best of what we have heard up until now and will continue to find more talent as we continue with our project. There are many DJ’s on our site that even a hardened Bangkok partygoer would not have necessarily heard on a night out, but would fully appreciate and would want to hear.
