Q&A: Crystal Method
Q&A: Crystal Method
August 14th, 2008
Why the name Crystal Method?
Many years ago, Ken and I used to do outside production. A rapper we were working with made a reference to the fact that our friend Crystal was driving us to the club that night. He said “ah, the crystal method.” We just loved the way it sounded.
What do you say to being called “America’s version of the Chemical Brothers”?
That line was printed in a UK magazine and Sony, our label at the time, decided to hammer it down peoples throat. Don’t get me wrong; the Chems have inspired many acts including us. Tom and Ed are incredible artists that continue to redefine the genre. It’s just that it’s a bit lazy to continue to use the quote. Can you tell we’re tired of it? lol.
What’s your 3-hour set at Gazebo Sukhumvit going to consist of?
Lots of new TCM tracks, sick new remixes, banging breaks and gritty electro.
What’s your favorite composition so far and why?
Well, that’s a hard question to answer. Keep Hope Alive and Busy Child are two tracks that come to mind. Both have had a huge impact on our success and are favorites of many of our fans.
Any upcoming projects we should be excited about?
We’re finishing our new studio album, which we hope to have out at the end of this year.
