Q&A: Bathma Kaew-Ngok and Naomi Daimaru
July 27th, 2007Bathma Kaew-Ngok, a Thai ceramics artist, and Naomi Daimaru, a Japanese floral artist, are fascinated by the beauty and simplicity of nature. (see +art this page).
Why did you choose Saxophone Pub as the place for your exhibition?
Bathma: At Saxophone, they have a charity project to help poor kids study art. I thought it would be a good idea to invite artists to exhibit here and give 30% of the profits to this project.
The concept of your exhibit is tranquility.
Bathma: I only use natural materials to compose in my works. Nature is a simple, basic, force, it can convey a sense of tranquility.
Naomi: It means both life and death, which is why I worked on lending dead plants a new life.
Bathma, why clay? Naomi, why flowers?
Bathma: It’s hard to explain why I love it. Maybe because clay always tells a story: depending on its origin, it is always a different material, and thus conveys different emotions.
Naomi: People have forgotten their origins. Every time I smell the flowers, I miss my childhood. I miss that uncomplicated life. Nature shows me where real happiness is.
