Q&A: Aung Kyaw Htet

Devout Buddhist and artist Aung Kyaw Htet presents a vivid and colorful depiction of cultural and religious influences in Burmese Inspirations. See +art page 31.

What is the highlight of the exhibition?

The expression and portrayal of the way of life of the sons of Buddha—monks, novices, and nuns.

If you had to paint Bangkok, how would you?

I would rather paint the peaceful countryside than Bangkok. If I weren’t afforded that choice, I would paint the monks here as such scenes inspire me greatly.

If you were not an artist, what would you be?

Perhaps a designer—I have always been very interested in colors and the graceful movement of lines.

What inspires you?

Colors, movements, subjects, compositions, and lighting bring out the artist in me.

What’s next in line? Do you have any future projects?

I happen to be a life-long learner and I am still studying painting. It’s an ongoing adventure. I hope to discover something new in my field soon and that may change my current standpoint.
