Issue #263: Live Music

Q&A: 7th Scene

Q&A: 7th Scene

February 16th, 2008

Almost Famous While, Stamp, who was featured in Boyd’s projects Strangers and Rhythm & Boyd Eleventh, is often under the spotlight, 7th Scene’s eclectic sound—a mix of acoustic, electro, pop and rock—wouldn’t exist without Chuch’s keyboard and Art’s guitar.

BK: Why synth music?

Stamp: Music is music, regardless of instruments you use.
Art: Usually rock music uses live instruments. Adding synthesizers gives our music more flare.

BK: What’s your favorite song on this album?

Art: I like “Invisible,” the fi rst track. It was just rock, but we got the renowned producer Funn Komol Boonpianpol to arrange the music. He added awesome synth sounds from the 80s and the sounds of secret agent fi lms’ theme songs. We never expected that this song could be made this flashy.

BK: How long did it take to record this album?

Stamp: We worked on it for three years on and off. You know, when we have an idea or inspiration, we got together and do it. If we don’t feel inspired, we don’t try to force it.

BK: Are your songs mostly about love?

Stamp: This album is not only about love, it’s also about life, encouragement, guilt and attitude. Of course, when you write something, part of it usually comes from personal experience. And we listen to pop songs every now and then, so we get influenced into writing about love and sweetness, too.

BK: We heard that Stamp wrote a song for Bird Thongchai.

Stamp: Golf Fuckin’ Hero asked me to help write the song “Namta.” And they chose my song, so I’m kind of lucky.

BK: Chuch, we heard that you were the sound producer of the soundtrack for the stage performance Chai Klang.

Chuch: I always like making music for fi lms or plays. I like that it has a story. I like that I have to stick to the emotions in a particular scene, like romance. And I got to work with Jik Prapas Cholsaranon, too. Personally, I admire him a lot. Besides, this “Sound Producer” title sounds cool.

BK: So you guys like being in or out of the spotlight?

Stamp: When we make music, we want people to hear it, we want to perform. When we perform, when the audience sings along to our songs, we want to write more songs.

BK: What do you expect from this album?

Chuch: When someone produces a work, he has expectations for sure. But we are ready to get negative feedback from people who don’t like it. We have high expectations but we won’t let it upset it. Sumanut Thiengthong
