Photography Classes
Photography Classes
January 3rd, 2008Dear Mr. KIA: I recently got a 35mm camera. It’s a second hand so it didn’t come with a manual or anything. I found a third-party manual though, but it only answered the basics about loading the film and “what is this button?” type of questions. So I’d like to fi nd a photography course where I could learn to use the camera, take better pictures, and utilize those knobs, as I don’t know what each one is good for. I’m from the US, and there we have
community colleges that off er classes (eg. 2 hours, once a week for 6-8 weeks, etc.) where they teach you how to use your camera, take better pictures, and if the school is so equipped, they can even show you how to develop film. I just wanna fi nd a course like that here. Can be in either English or Thai, though. Thanks for your help!—Mark.
Dear Mark, Secondhand cameras, Lomos and, yes, photography courses, I’ve done it all. But why not start the New Year by going over the basics one more time? If you don’t mind the language barrier,
Oho Photo offers a one-day class on the basics of photography. B1,500, comes with an instruction CD and a lunch. For a more class, try International Art Center, they have many courses, from basics to fashion, and they speak English. Another English course would be with the Photography Workshop Club (http://www.jonathantaylor.net/photographyschool/courses.php), with Jonathan Taylor, who offers private lessons (so the schedule is flexible). Many courses are available, including camera operation, which might suit your current needs. Please check their website for booking information. The course is US$300 (B9000) for a one-day course. Pricey, but Taylor is a published pro.
