Online Shopping

May 14th, 2008

Dear Mr. KIA: Ever since I was little it was my dream to have my own clothing store. I now have a little shop seling clothes and makeup from Hong Kong and I’m so proud of it. I like working for myself and of course it’s nice bringing beauty to people. Anyhow, I think it’s time to expand my store beyond a small corner at Platinum Mall. Is there any service which lets me sell my stuff online without too much help from an IT guy?—Glam Pam

Dear GP—The whole “Imported from Hong Kong/Japan/Taiwan/Korea” selling point is kinda old newsto me. But, if you think an online store will help, then try these places but, remember, no promises they’ll make you a millionaire.

We Love Shopping (www.weloveshopping.com), previously known as Market At Home, lets you create an online shop for free, if you’re only planning on selling 30 items or less. There are also many different packages to choose from depending on your shop’s needs. Their B400-a-year standard pack lets you sell 50 products, take credit cards and gets your shop registered for an E-Commerce Certificate from the Department of Business Development.

Siam Market Online (www.siammarketonline.com) offers a similar service at B500 a year for their Bronze, 30-piece package. Like many other services, it also lets you take credit cards, modify the look of your page with ease and offers mailing lists and forums for you to interact with customers. No E-Commerce registration though.

Market-2U (www.market2u.com), although not as well known, offers a B500-a-year unlimited items package. While they have a pretty simple webpage template and there’s very little you can do to personalize the page, you really can’t beat their deal to get a fully-serviced store.
