All Jazzed Up

La Grotta is no more, and replacing the glass-wrapped Italian restaurant is Niu’s On Silom (661, Silom Rd., Baan Silom, 02-266-5333/4, www.niusonsilom.com. Open daily 6pm-1am). The three-monthold “jazz blues bar and restaurant” serves up creations like penne with vodka and standards like grilled rack of lamb and all that (Italian) jazz. Speaking of which, a house band jazzes things up nightly, 9pm onwards.

My Place Suki (1/F, Anekvanich Bldg., before Thonglor Soi 6, 02-392-1252. Open Mon-Fri 11am-2:30pm, 5-10pm, Sat-Sun 11am-10pm) recently launched an all-you-can-eat deal which allows you to feast on its dip-and-swish suki items. B399 covers as much meat, veggies and dumplings as you can wolf down in two hours—exclusive of seafood, drinks and desserts. Single diners, listen up! Central Wine Cellar is hosting A Celebration of Wine at the Four Seasons Hotel ballroom on Mar 20, 6pm onwards. For a measly B300 you get to sample local and international wines from countries like Australia, France, Germany, Spain and Chile. Wine 101

Which wine, with what and how? Find out at the Wine Smart course led by female wine connoisseur Parani Chitrakorn. The four-week program is B15,000 and held Saturdays in March at Pantip Court (68 Sathorn Soi 1). It begins with an introduction to wines on Mar 8, before winding things down on Mar 29 with a field trip to vineyards in Khao Yai.
