NANG KWAK, BANKARA RAMEN, EMBER, SEVEN SEAS

The Thai Goddess Does Fusion

Actor Aunsarabut and girlfriend/singer Jennifer just opened up another restaurant, Italian-French fusion joint Nang Kwak (137/1 Thonglor Soi 10 Third Place, 02-714-7938. Open daily Mon-Fri 11am-2pm 5pm-midnight, Sat-Sun 11am-midnight). The celeb duo recommend the spaghetti with crisp pork knuckle (B230) and grilled lambchops with peppercorn and mushroom (B690). Take in some art at the restaurant’s gallery in the back.

Bonkers for Bankara

Japan’s monster-chain Bankara Ramen (32/1 The Manor 39, Sukhumvit Soi 39, 02-662-5162/3. BTS Phrom Phong. Open daily 11am-11pm) is making its first foray into foreign territory—Bangkok. Try their Bankara ramen (B160), a broth of pig bone with Japanese soy sauce, or their three other kinds of soup including the creamier version of the pig bone broth. Test their sauce, which is a mix of fish and pork broth (goes with cold noodles) or their ripe miso.

Kindling The Flame

Revamped, Ember (99/11-12 Langsuan Balcony Bldg., Soi Langsuan, Ploenchit Rd., 02-652-2086/7. Open Mon-Sat 11:30am-2pm 6-11pm), the European restaurant with Asian influences has rekindled our interest, with a new wooden floor, a higher ceiling and more space on the first floor (they got rid of the huge bar that use to be smack in the middle). You can try the tasting menu and some new appetizers, like the pan fried foie gras (B820) and Hokkaido scallops (B480). For white collars, they now offer an executive lunch with free Lavazza coffee. Wifi’s free, too.

Under The Sea

Hungry for some seafood? Then opt for the restaurant all about the ocean and head over to Seven Seas (27 Sukhumvit Soi 4, 02-656-7881. Open daily 11am-midnight), which just opened its second branch (the original, also very new, is in 1/F, Central Silom). Popular dishes include the deep fried calamari (B169), lemon pepper pomfret (B289) and the blackened tabtim (B199).
