My Bar re-launches

Lately, there’s been a bit of a renaissance for hotel bars, think Barsu at Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit and Wine Pub at Pullman. Now comes the re-launch of My Bar (Dusit Thani Hotel, 02-200-9000) serving up a packed week of theme nights, deals and DJs. Perhaps the pick of these is the buy 1 get 2 free offer on Mon, though the special monthly airline crew promotions might be a more successful way of attracting a certain type of crowd to the bar.

Jazzy Tea In the Park

It seems TK Park (8/F Central World) isn’t just a place to dump the nieces when you want to do some shopping. TK Park Tea Time Jazz Festival 2008, gives it a soulful vibe as singers will perform for free from 4:30-6pm every Sat in July. On Jul 5, The Jazz Brothers will be paying “A Tribute to Jazz Legends,” and on Jul 15, it’s “The Art of Jazz Guitar” by Pratt Arunrungsri. “Women in Jazz” on Jul 19 features Nichapa Jittaleela and the Air Quartet, with the festival ending on Jul 26, with Cholanat Limthai taking us “From Pop to Jazz with Jazz Dojo.”

Guitar & Tapas

Tucking into some tasty fusion tapas while enjoying a glass of vino at Tapas Y Vino (Grand Millennium Sukhumvit) is never a bad way to start the evening. But, it has to be said that the vibe can sometimes be a little bit too quiet. To break the silence they’ve brought in famous guitarist Pongpat Pongpradit, founder of the Thailand Guitar Quartet, to perform nightly solo recitals from 7-10pm (everyday except Sundays).
