Mr. KIA: My dog needs some air!

September 6th, 2007

Dear Mr. KIA, When I bought my little dog a month ago, I was looking forward to taking him for walks in the parks of Bangkok. It will be good exercise for him as well as for me, I thought. However, I was very surprised to find out that most parks in Bangkok don’t allow pets! Fortunately , I have a little bit of space outside my house for him to play but could you tell me if there are some other places where I could take him? Thanks.—Woof Woof

Dear WW:
It’s a pity that living in a city also means limited space for not only us, but our pets as well. I just don’t know why parks don’t allow pets. As long as the owner picks up after them, are they such a nuisance to other park goers that they need to be banned? Mr. KIA has sniffed out a few places where you and your furry friends can go out for a breath of fresh Bangkok pollution together—or even enjoy a romantic dinner.

Ozono Complex is the J-Avenue of pets. Here, not only will you find open spaces for your pup to play but stores, restaurants and grooming services dedicated to your animals. The Petropolis Park is the perfect place for your pup to roam free, and if s/he gets tired, you can check him/her into the Petropolitan Hotel. There’s also a restaurant, pet store, and, a spa for your little friends. But to enjoy these facilities, you have to become a member, which starts at B20,000 but varies depending on the number of critters you own and the schedule you pick.

If you’re a fitness person and want your dog to follow in your blazing trail, take your pet to Doggie Doo The name doesn’t sound very welcoming (if you have a puppy, you’re probably very bored of “doo” already), but the place is full of fun activities like swimming, training and a grooming spa.

Not exactly a walk in the park, but still an opportunity for doggie to get out of the apartment, Chom Suan Restaurant, Amapola and A Garden all allow pets.
