The buzz: Opened by French-Laos family man and foodie, the modest European restaurant promises a straightforward meal with quality ingredients.

The décor: The petite eatery is classically simple; elegant white and black chairs set against lacquered white tables and gray walls give a stylish contrast to the restaurant. However, when you realize the chairs are from Index, the classiness might just go down a notch. Nevertheless, Mimosa is able to set up a no-fuss and tasteful ambience. Sit at the private nook set against a stark, black pleathered wall with flower imprints for a more intimate meal. Sometime next year, the owners are hoping to expand their modest eatery to include a patio for some alfresco dining.

The cuisine: European with a traditional taste for unadventurous diners, but presented with a dash of modernity to up the hiso-ness. For starters try the Nicoise salad with seasonal vegetables, passion fruit and vinaigrette. You can really taste the freshness of their ingredients with the linguini puttanesca. The cherry tomatoes are bouncy, the olives and anchovy flavorful and the capers fresh. The Australian rack of lamb with a herb and parmesan crust and lamb jus is toothsome and tasty with a decent cut of fat and attention paid to the crust. End your meal with a light but sweet tarte tatin (a reversed apple tart).

The crowd: Families and residents from the apartment building, friends of the owners and Japanese expats.
