In Bangkok, two savagely abused women are found locked in an apartment for “ritual” purposes. Somchit Deebuk, 50, a security guard, is making the rounds of a complex in Soi Ratchapharop when a potted plant falls on his head, followed by a crumpled note that reads, “We are in room 5024 on the fifth floor. Help or we will jump and kill ourselves.” The apartment in question belongs to half-Malaysian, half-Bruneian Tanku Ahmad Faosi, 41, and his wife. Police break in to find two severely abused women, Jirathaya Sriwattanaphong, 39, and Suphadee Khunwong, 29. They are rushed to a hospital, where tests show that they were raped, burned and beaten. Jirathaya’s older sister, Pornchanit, tells police that she would also have been a victim of Tanku’s physical abuse had she been unmarried. She says Tanku uses single women to perform rituals where he calls on spirits to give him lucky lottery numbers. Police are hoping to get further information from the recovering women. As of press time, Tanku is still at large.

In Ang Thong, terror struck villagers claim they have been haunted by a ghost. A series of mysterious events unfold as poor villagers take turns to live in a house provided by the government. Each one flees the property with a different story to tell. Some claim to have been possessed, others say they have been haunted by a female ghost dressed in a traditional Thai costume. The house, which was built on what used to be a graveyard, was given to Sanaw Phong-o-phat, 78, by village authorities as part of their “helping the needy” project but she refuses to live there. Residents around the area claim to have witnessed strange activities, such as blinking lights and dark fi gures, around the property at night time.

In Pathum Thani, a middle-aged man slashes the leg of a thief. San Phonucha, 53, a housekeeper, is sleeping when he hears strange noises in his kitchen. He grabs a foot-long knife and slowly tiptoes into the room. He finds three male robbers, one with three expensive bottles of wine in his hand. He shouts to the neighbors for help causing one of the robbers to charge at him with a knife. Defending himself, he slashes the man’s leg, almost severing it completely. The other robbers flee the scene in panic. The injured man is rushed to the hospital and will remain in police custody. Meanwhile, authorities are searching for his accomplices.
