In Sataheeb, retired naval offi cers bury themselves on the beach every morning to rid themselves of ailments. Eksahad Chuemkhwan, 61, is one of many ex-Satahip Naval Base officers who practice this ritual every morning on the seaside. He carries a shovel to the beach, digs a hole, and buries himself lying fl at, with his head to the North, pointing towards the mountains, and his feet to the South, pointing towards the sea, in accordance with feng shui. The practice is said to prevent diseases like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, arthritis, and paralysis.

In Nonthaburi, a man is sent to a mental asylum after keeping his child imprisoned in their home for 15 years. Chinthrit Wattanapanitkit never lets his 15-year-old daughter out. Child services alert the police who break into Chinthrit’s house to investigate. All sunlight is blocked out of the house and it is dirty, with poor ventilation. Chinthrit is taken to the Srithanya Mental Asylum while his daughter is handed over to relatives to be taken care of.

Thanongsak Singao, 29, completes his jail sentence for attempted murder and returns to the home of his sister, Ketraphon Singao, 39. He exhibits disturbing behavior, such as stripping naked, which causes Ketraphon to fear that he might molest her 10-year-old daughter Ananda and 7-year-old son Tawan. She moves her two children to a relative’s house where she keeps them locked up. Social services inform the police who break in to
fi nd the three of them malnourished and neglected.
