Mad at the Mobs
Despite the baying mob actually being a bunch of aunties, the recent stand-off between Samak and Sondhi has certainly brought plenty of bad press for the Kingdom. We don’t care about tourist numbers, but we do care about the effect it’s having on our concert plans. Alas, the first to use the “conflict situation” as an excuse to cancel was pop princess Kylie. After her battle with cancer we thought she was made of tougher stuff!
But she’s not alone, as a bunch of plastic-faced, plastic-haired Korean singers due to arrive on Sep 25 for the Korea-Thailand Friendship Concert 2008 have also postponed until further notice. Not such a big loss (except maybe to the Dusit Thani), but still: Samak, Sondhi, we’ve had enough luk thoong concerts at G House; please don’t make it necessary for us to fly to Singapore to see international artists.
It’s Alive!
For over a decade Song Salung has given us night crawlers plenty to discuss. It came, it went, it came back and now it is closed, again.
You know what’s next: in time for their 12th anniversary bash in November, SS will be resurrected in the former site of Escudo (4/F, Dutchess Bldg.).
The Business of Show Business
A couple of weeks ago, at a nightclub named after a famous Spanish island, sweet-faced German DJ Lemen spun a hot house set to the delight of a packed crowd, but the real fun——well, that is if your idea of “fun” is the same as After Hours’, a card carrying member of Schadenfreuders Anonymous—began after the show.
The next day a note from one of the party organizers, let’s call them Ubiquitous Performers, appeared on Facebook bitching about payment problems with the venue. Though the post quickly disappeared, and though both sides refused to comment for the record, the word on the street is that there won’t be a repeat performance by the UP at the NNAAFSI.
Speaking to others in the biz, it seems this isn’t the first time that the Unctuous Pouters have upset a venue—could this be why they are always moving onto the next joint?
