ISAO, SPICY MAHARAJA, AND SUNRISE TACOS

Roll Out the Rolls

While tried-and-true Italian-Japanese fare has made Sonie’s a big hit, newcomer Isao (5 Sukhumvit Soi 31, 02-258-0645/6. Open Mon-Fri 11am-2:30pm, 5:30-10pm; Sat-Sun 11am-11pm) goes for a more American fusion. Inspired by Green Tea Restaurant in Chicago, the three-month-old sushi bar offers a variety of creative rolls such as Winter (shrimp, avocado, crab meat and spinach wrapped with cucumber, B220) and Jackie (shrimp tempura rolls, B325). Wash them down with an Oyster Shooter (oysters in sake served in a Champagne glass, B200).

King of the Mall

CentralWorld welcomes yet another new eatery to its growing dining empire. The one-month-old Spicy Maharaja (7/F, CentralWorld, Ratchadamri Rd., 02-646-1060. Open daily 10am-10pm) whips up various Northern Indian classics with five levels of spicyness from mild to super hot. Most of the diners are Japanese families, who don’t seem to mind paying royal prices. Some of the recommendations are tandoori kebabs and chicken tikka (B230), butter chicken tikka curry (B250) and keema curry (B230). Garlic cheese naan is B100. The eatery also offers set lunch at B250, daily 11am-2:30pm.

Top Tacos

Weary Paragon shoppers also have it good as Sunrise Tacos (Siam Paragon, Rama 1 Rd., www.sunrisetacos.com) has opened another branch right next to the mega mall’s supermarket. In addition to its popular beef burrito and chicken soft tacos, you can also sample a range of new items such as a platter of giant burritos with spicy ranchero sauce and Spanish rice and Granny Smith apple pie.
