Reward yourself with peaceful moments in these newly opened spas. By Duangtawan Nilayon and Sonia Boonchanasukit

RarinJinda Wellness Spa

6 and 8/F, Grande Centre Point Bldg., 153/2 Soi Mahadlekluang 1, Ratchadamri Rd., 02-670-5599. Open daily 10am-11:30pm. www.rarinjinda.com. BTS Ratchadamri.

Place: It requires a bit of effort to get to this two-month old spa hidden on the sixth and eighth floor of the Grande Centre Point building. The décor is elegant but not too fancy, your typical clean cut spa: dark brown walkways, ceramic water jars, dim lights, the sound of gurgling water from jars and instrumental melodies (a notch better than BTS Green Music but still…).

Facilities: The 15 rooms are carefully designed to suit each treatment. You’ll find hi-tech luxury equipment like the Vichy shower (a machine with seven showers that sprinkles water at different pressures to seven vital points on your body), electric blankets to keep you warm during a massage, and even the Warm Quartz Sand Bed, where the surface is soft enough to have you sound asleep within minutes.

Signature treatments: Stressed out working women will surely love the gentleness of the Elements of Life package (B1,800), which combines four natural elements: earth, wind, fire and water in 1.5 hours. It starts with a herbal foot soak and pedicure followed by a very gentle East Meets West Body Massage on a sand bed. The beds are super comfy and the masseurs well trained. The treatment also brings in an element of sound—gentle taps on Tibetan pots that are placed on your belly and ankles and ends with a sprinkling of cold rose scented water. As a finishing touch, sweet mango with sticky rice is served.

Prices: Starting from B1,000 for the RarinJinda Soothing Foot Spa (herbal foot soak, guava foot polisher, oriental foot reflexology and herbal compress) to B7,000 for a full 5-hour RarinJinda Golden Memories Package (guava foot polisher, Siamese herbal steam, floral bath whirlpool with chromotherapy, a choice of body scrub or body massage, aromatic hot stone massage, herbal compress, facial relaxation and Shirodhaya massage).

Spa Botanica

The Sukhothai, 13/3 South Sathorn Rd., 02-344-8888. Open daily 9am-10pm. www.sukhothaihotel.com.

Place: The venue is a small villa behind the luxurious hotel. Light-colored teak flooring and Jim Thompson silk decorations give the place a luxurious as well as a homey feel.

Facilities: No hi-tech gadgets here—just a lot of privacy and space, ideal for those who want to escape from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. All seven garden-view treatment rooms come with private changing rooms, toilets and showers. Two of them are suites (single and couple) equipped with an indoor Jacuzzi and outdoor Japanese wooden bathtub. On par with the hotel’s reputation for excellence, the staff goes beyond expectations.

Signature treatments: Spa Botanica has a long menu but the Five Elements Cleanse and Purifying Ritual (B7,000/2.5 hours) and Thailand Flower Ritual (B7,000/3 hours) are the crown jewels. Five Elements includes herbal foot wash, watercress milk body cleansing, herbal inhalation, Tibetan oil and healing clay massage and wrap as well as a purifying bath and body moisturizing. The Flower Ritual begins with a 10-min pebble footbath followed by a 30-minute dry massage, an hour long jasmine coriander scrub, a 20-minute flower bath and another hour of aroma massage. Travelers should also consider the 1.5-hour Travel Tonic package to fight back pains and jetlag (B3,900 for a 90-minute back massage and soothing leg treatment).

Prices: Ranging from B1,800 (papaya clay mask or acupressure foot massage) to B19,800 (Spa Thai Together Day.) Special promotions on selected ingredients are offered every two months. You can smooth your skin with the Virgin Coconut or Botanica Body cocktails at B3,900, through Apr 30. For BK readers, get a free complimentary Energizing Leg Massage (Mon-Fri, 9am-3pm) for every B3,900 spent at Spa Botanica, through Apr 30.

Sundaree

Eastin Hotel and Spa, 1091/343 New Petchburi Rd., 02-651-7600. Open daily 10am-10pm.
www.eastinhotelandspa.com.

Place: This month-old spa on the 10th floor of a modern 4-star property parallel to the freeway is marketed as a “contemporary Thai spa.” Sure enough, the blend between traditional earthy tones (brick reds and rust) and modern fixtures in beige and dark brown is both natural and minimalist.

Facilities: This facility is ideal for couples who want to pamper and beautify themselves individually and then indulge in a romantic spa package for two—this facility has most of what you need. One beauty service room for manicures, pedicures and waxing; one Thai massage room and four single private rooms to undergo various spa treatments. Each room is equipped with shower facilities, a closet, towels, a safe to keep your belongings and of course dim lighting, pleasant aromas and relaxing instrumental music. The really cool spot is the private couple suite equipped with an elevated Jacuzzi.

Signature treatments: For the ladies, the Sundari Abhayanga Massage (B2,200 for 1.5 hours) is inspired by the very popular traditional Ayurvedic treatments from India. The full-body oil massage includes three techniques: the Vata to relax and calm the nerves, Pitta to rejuvenate and sooth sore muscles and joints and Kapha which brings the benefits of these two techniques together and invigorates you. For men, the recommended treatment is the Sundari Target Massage (B1,600 for one hour). As the name suggests, it is designed to focus on particular areas to alleviate pain and muscle tension.

Prices: Sundaree’s treatments menu ranges from B600 (head, shoulder, scalp massage) to an exclusive and comprehensive Day at the Spa package (B5,000 with a 30-minute body scrub or 30-minute body wrap, 1-hour body massage, 1-hour facial and a 30-minute beautifying hand paraffin treatment). Tired travelers can indulge in a 2-hour Jet Lag Reviver B3,000 (B5,000 for couples) which includes a Thai herbal massage, hydrotherapy or herbal steam and a body massage. Ladies, pamper yourselves with the herbal body wraps and silky body scrubs (B1,000-2,000) or a 1.5-hour Ultimate Slimming Treatment (B2,200).
