Escudo is Back
Escudo is Back
January 4th, 2008Lights, Interaction, Flash
Escudo Club, the oh-so-hi-so club on Thonglor is now back after eight months of renovation and a big B10 million envelope to cover its new interactive technology. Their grand opening party on Dec 17 was full of glitters. From the front of the Duchess building lay a twinkling black carpet with two cat women in shiny black and gold ready for us to take pictures with. The party was packed, with squeezing past revelers and breathing rendered nearly impossible. Up on the fifth floor, the interactive bar was simply… a bar. The tables were more interesting: colorful lasers play off the glasses, connecting them and surrounding them with beams of light. Escudo may activate more of their interactive tricks soon, such as interactive games and inter-table messaging. As for the music, we were served the usual stuff with some interesting tracks thrown in, like one aria from The Phantom of the Opera.
Fly is Die
When Super Fly opened we were thrilled that its mastermind, Mystique, was back, despite the odd location. Back in Sukhumvit Soi 31, they had run into some problems with the boys in brown, but they swore that was all cleared up. Whatever it was, Superfly isn’t so fly anymore. It is now totally closed and its property on sale. We know we’ll see them around soon, though.
Too Much Eating, Playing and Dancing
A couple weeks ago, we had a chance to go to the one year anniversary of BarSu, whose motto, “Eat, Play, Dance,” was dutifully respected by the guests, as they were doing just that when we walked in. After some air-kissing, we began to notice that not only the music was from the 80s, but many of the guests were probably beginning to party in those days. Never mind, flawless food and drink from 7:30pm till 2am guaranteed that by closing time, everyone was nearly in a coma, and neither playing, drinking, nor dancing. Bravo Barsu. Your 2007 BK Reader’s Choice Award for Favorite New Bar was well deserved. Keep it up!
