Equipment for Your Picnic

Equipment for Your Picnic

November 14th, 2007

1. Big bags (B500-B3,250. At Playground!): You need to carry all this stuff in something, don’t you?

2. Cutlery: You could gross everyone out by eating with your hands. Or you could just get yourself some cutlery. You can go with the plastic kind (B39/10 spoon and fork pairs, at Fresh Mart), but we like the idea of bringing cutlery from home. Help the planet a little!

3. Paper cups (B150/10, at Habitat): Better than the plastic kind. But if you insist on plastic, make sure they’re pretty (B220-B1,990, at Playground!)

4. Paper plates (B295/10, at Habitat).

5. Napkins (B20.75/50, at Fresh Mart): You really need these. Get them.

6. Straws (B175/100, at Habitat): For obvious reasons.

7. Small knife (B425 for Kuhn Rikon knife with high carbon stainless steel blade, at Verasu): Good for cutting fruit, bread, and other edible foodstuffs, but please don’t turn this on your boyfriend after he tells you he’s going on that year-long trip to Alaska. With your roommate.

8. Portable containers (B150-B175, at Verasu): Good for bringing food and taking away leftovers.

9. Beach towel (B5,900, Sonia Rykiel maison beach towel, at Playground!) or woven mat (B1,800 for a 90 x 120m mat at Panta): You can choose to sit on the grass and get your butt wet. But maybe your colleagues will think you wet your pants.

10. Sunblock (B400 for SPF 15, 12-hour protection, at Boots): You might think you don’t need this, but you do.

11. Insect repellent (B325, at Boots): Especially if you’re thinking of lingering until dusk.

12. Books: Maybe you can’t think of what to say to your significant other. This is a good way of avoiding the main issue, which is that you two have nothing to talk about anymore.

13. Wine stoppers (B1,050 each, at Playground!).

14. Winecooler egg (B4,250): Keeps wine cool.

15. Tea eggs (B225, at Playground!).

16. Vacuum travel flask (B2,900, at Verasu)
