Issue #263: Live Music

Deva, Madison, Mango Tree Bistro and Kuppa

Living It Up

A place for friends and family, Deva (32/1 Sukhumvit Soi 39, 02-662-5427. Open daily 11am-11pm) is the brainchild of celebrity chef M.L. Kwantip Devakula. The concept is “homestyle” dining—in a really posh home, judging from the picture—with homemade cooking fashioned from family recipes. The cuisine has been described as “modern,” which has us somewhat baffled, is it modern or traditionally home-cooked? We guess grandma got a posh makeover. Also, starting this month, cooking classes will be held at the restaurant in the morning.

The Vineyard and the Sea

The Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok’s high-end steakhouse, Madison (155 Ratchadamri Rd., 02-250-1000 ext. 1231/2. Open daily 11:30am-2:30pm, 6pm-10:30pm. MRT Ratchadamri),
along with Leeuwin Estate, an Australian family-owned winery from the Margaret River region, is hosting a five-course wine dinner (B4,200) on May 9, 7:30 pm. Then, during May 10-17, the steakhouse is presenting an Australian seafood showcase, in which you can sample special a la carte dishes from down under with prices starting from B700.

Young Mango

Mango Tree Bistro (7/F, Central World, Ratchadamri Rd., 02-252-0972. Open daily 10am-10pm) has just opened up another branch at Central World. Targeting a younger crowd, the Thai dishes here are simpler than at the original and the price tags are B90-190. Recommended dishes include herbal deep-fried chicken, penang pork and spicy soft-shell crab salad.

Another Kuppa!

Celebrating its brand new branch at Central World, Kuppa (1/F, Central World, Ratchadamri Rd., 02-613-1694/5. Open daily 10am-10pm), the café restaurant serving international cuisine to the capital’s hipsters, is presenting its diners with a 20% discount on all items on the menu through June 30. The menu is otherwise the same as its parent restaurant on Sukhumvit 16.
