Dear Mr. KIA: I wanna shop bargains!

Dear Mr. KIA: I’m a cheapskate shopper and I’m aware of that. I don’t mind wearing outdated fashion as long as it has a brand name on it and can be bought for cheap. I’m a big fan of factory outlets and those export shops in department stores where they sell “inter” branded clothing that are produced in Thailand. I think I have been to all those shops in town already and I need somewhere new to go. Mr. KIA, do you know any factory outlet venues where I can satisfy my cheapskate shopping fantasy? And please, I want somewhere in Bangkok?—Satang Style

Dear SS: I like cheap stuff, too, and although I wouldn’t go as far as driving to out of town factory outlets just to get cheap clothing, I can relate to an extent. Unlike you, I’d rather wait until the sale season, which occurs quite often in Bangkok, instead of going to those warehouses where the clothes might be of questionable quality. But anyway, I know of a few places where you can shop for inter, “made in Thailand” goods.

Patara Market is a large market that sells factory rejects from well-known US brands. Since you’re dealing with rejected goods, you will have to inspect them closely. Some clothing might be stained, torn, or missing a button, so look carefully.

The Outlet is also a great place to hunt down straight-from-the-factory goods. The clothing ranges from women’s wear to sneakers. The outlet doesn’t only offer clothes, but also cosmetics, kitchenware, and luggage.

F-Scene Outlet is where all discount Thai-designed items end up. If you don’t want to pay full price for these at hiso malls, you can try your luck at F-Scene. The brands include Duet, Kloset, Keven, and other unknown Thai designer brands.
