June Jungle
June looks like the month of drum n’ bass as the two big clubs bring leading exponents to Bangkok. First up, 808 brings UK Deejays’ Randall and Outrage on Jun 14 courtesy of Jazzbah Records. Tickets B500/1 drink. Meanwhile Club Culture has the Australian, now UK-based, Pendulum featuring MC Jakes on Jun 27. B500 (pre-sale/1 drink), B700 (at door/1 drink). Time to lower the city’s bass line.
Balearic Bar
Ibiza the Bar (B1/F, 02-656-0382) at the Intercontinental Hotel has just opened and promises to be a new five star venue for lovers of the latest tunes. A full bar review will follow in BK soon. So far the soft opening has just a couple gigs lined up. Twisted Funk on Jun 20 with progressive house from Deejays Sunju and Nick and a day later (Jun 21), our favorite DJ Oum throws electro tech house tunes in Technicality. Free entry for both nights.
Not So Active
For many years Escudo was the creme de la creme for hip hop lovers. Then it shut down for renovation and reopened as the “first” interactive bar in town. Another closure, for yet further improvement, followed, which was meant to take a couple months… Now, apart from Smirnoff parties and private affairs, the new line is it’s officially closed. It seems that the interactive factor didn’t wow Bangkok after all—we just hope Twisted lasts a little longer.
No More Ad
Speaking of closing, after decades serving night crawlers with yummy food and impressive live music, Ad Maker in Lang Suan is no more. Instead those looking to enjoy its unique vibe have to trek out to Bangna and its newly opened sister branch. When we visited, its out of the way location meant it was a little on the quiet side. There was a rumor last year that a branch of Ad would takeover Ichq (the hundred year old building at Surasak) but we’ve heard little since.
