Blues Bars
Blues Bars
August 24th, 2007This tiny, smoky Banglamphoo bar is well known by blues lovers, both Thai and farang. You need to practically climb over musicians who sit casually in the middle of the bar to order a drink. It’s a place for regulars and backpackers and is the essence of an intimate live music setting.
Located in the end of the soi, the bar offers live music and DJ sets. In-house bands play mostly jazz, along with some blues and Latin tunes. Middle-aged farangs and Thais are the usual clientele and it’s become quite famous for its salsa night on Sun.
This bastion of jazz and blues may be a bit dusty, but it’s still got charm. True aficionados belly up to the stage downstairs while billiards players check out the action casually from the mezzanine. The bands’ set lists have become a bit commercial, but the bar is still a great place to catch music after all of these years.
TOKYO JOE’S BAR AND RESTAURANT
It has now expanded is square meterage as well as its musical genres. Besides blues, any kind of commercial pop can be heard here now. Try JFC (Joe’s fried chicken) with a cool beer while listening to classic blues or rock tunes. Another authentic spot for live music lovers.
