Bike Shops

November 22nd, 2007

Dear Mr. KIA, Suicidal though this may prove, I’ve decided to resort to a mountain bike, rather than face the daily mayhem of Bangkok traffic. There are, in this city, still some of us left who are man enough to defy diesel clouds, kamikaze buses, and egotistic Benz drivers. As you’ve no doubt noticed, however, there are fewer bike shops than Toyota dealers. I can only hope that you’re a fan of eco-friendly two-wheelers and can tell me where to buy a really cool bicycle. Help me out and I’ll hit the pedals and speed off without polluting and poisoning this wonderful, crazy place.—Would Be Armstrong

Dear WBA, Ah, biking: a completely alien world to the overwhelming majority of Bangkok’s petrol-guzzling population—and with good reason. Think of all the crazy motorcyclists you’ll be competing with on the “bike lanes.” There’s also the acrid fumes belched by the shambling old buses. Yeah, you really are bent on suicide But since it’s my job to grant people’s wishes, here you go: a list of great places to score your death machine.

Worldbike is a one-stop bike haven. You can get pretty much anything, here: top quality imported bikes and the spare parts to pimp them up.

Siam Bike is located almost at the edge of the city, but if you’re really into bicycles, they have everything you’ll ever need.

Red Bull Park comes to mind when you think of extreme mountain biking. It has a park where you can show off your biking skills, or you can visit the shop for professional bicycle related products.

Cannondale Center Only visit this shop if you’re willing to pay top dollar for top-notch products.

Probike This store has quite a selection of good quality bikes and accessories.
