Silom Soi 4 has seen a lot of places come and go. Well, there’s a newcomer to the soi, named Bearbie Bar, for chubbies, bears and their chasers. The bar is a karaoke and pub, so grow that beard, work on that bear belly and get yourself a lumber-jack shirt!
Straight as Sarasin Rd.
We all know that Sarasin Rd. has become a gay street where no straight bar seems to survive for more than a few moons, if you exclude Brown Sugar, which has been around for decades. Pub 2high has just closed, a few weeks after Bard (which closed shortly after New Year). But now, Bard is reopening—new name, same management and same décor. Hip That does now boast a small stage on the left hand side where a band will play three times a week. They may not be cute but it could always provide relief to those who want to stick to the street and yet not leave the closet.
Last Shave
On the other hand, At Barber, the hair salon by day, bar by night and after-hour-place by late night, has closed for good. Rumor has it that it was just a few days after New Year that the police raided the bar and politely asked them to close earlier than usual. Then they returned, claiming this was a bad time to reopen, considering our national loss. Under these con-
ditions, the owners have given up on their unique venue.
