Bead Jewelry

July 9th, 2008

Dear Mr. KIA: My fiance has gone to London for one of his business trips again. So yeah, I’m left behind here in Bangkok. Thankfully he allowed me to use his Platinums while he’s away. Now that I have all this time and money, I wanna do something different for myself other than going shopping with the girls. I’m bored of them. Is there anywhere I can learn crafts? I especially want to learn how to make bead jewelry. Thanks!—Beady Eyes.

Dear BE: Look, your fiance is in London on his “business trip” and you’re worried about what to do with his money? You guys sound like another match made in hiso heaven. He’s not afraid leaving you alone in the Big Bad Mango? Or does he not care? Anyway, here’s where you can get beading classes and learn to be a perfect khun nai.

Beads Passion Choose your own accessory kit, grab a chair and the staff will teach you how to customize your work of art. No need to hurry, you can linger in the shop until you finish your masterpiece. There are many choices of accessory kits from B350-1,600 depending on the materials: Swarovsky crystal or Japanese beads.

Crystal Design has various beading courses ranging from basic to advanced. Learn how to make anything from dolls, rings or bracelets. The course is from B999-B3,790. For beginners, taking at least the level 1/1 and 1/2 courses is recommended.

Central Workshop offers classes to boring housewives but if you’d don’t mind the crowd, you can join in on the “fun.” There are three types of classes to choose from. For simple plastic beads, it’s B1,700 (B1,400 for Central Card holders) for a 6-hour class (yikes) from 11am-6pm on Jul 19. For glass beads, you can choose the date and time for your two 3-hour sessions at B3,000 (for card holders). Or try with the stone beads from 1-5pm on Aug 9 for B1,100 (B800 for card holders).
