Bars to Let the Creative Juices Flow
Bars to Let the Creative Juices Flow
August 22nd, 2008Bar 23
22/5 Sukhumvit Soi 23, 02-258-3566. Open Tue-Sun 6pm-midnight.
For: The free flow artist. This small homey venue down Sukhumvit Soi 23 is ideal for someone who wants to sit and sketch. You’ll feel both, comfortable and inspired. Comfy because it always feels like you’re over at a friend’s place and inspired because of all the art work on display downstairs. They are also in the process of turning their 2nd floor into a mini art space.
Diplomat Bar
Conrad Hotel Bangkok, Wireless Rd., 02-690-9981. Open Sun-Thu 10am-1am, Fri-Sat 10am-2am.
For: The noble writer. Writers’ block at home? It’s always good to get a change of scenery and what better place for inspiration than a bar filled with worldly diplomats and leaders of industry and the odd hi-so. So put on those glasses (even if they’re for show), pull out the laptops and start tapping out that spy thriller.
Señor Pico
1/F, Rembrandt Hotel, 19 Sukhumvit Soi 18, 02-261-7100. Open daily 5pm-1am.
For: The sultry dancer. After work, you’re either presented with: a workout session or a wine-and-dine with friends. Ninety percent of the time, we settle for the latter. But what if, you can actually accommodate both? Head to Señor Pico on Wed night where they have free Latin dance classes. It can get pretty hot when you mix the flow of margaritas and the swingingsalsa action.
Syn Bar
Lobby/F, Swissôtel Nai Lert Park, 2 Wireless Rd., 02-253-0123. Open daily 5pm-1am.
For: The star singer. It’s like the movie Dreamgirls—you’ve got to start small. So instead of settling for a singing session in the shower, head to Syn at the Nai Lert where you’ll come face to face with a band singing everything from “ Copacabana” to Shakira’s latest hits. Head straight for the stage, request a song, and have the ladies help you out. After a few rounds of drinks, you’ll be fighting for some solo stage time.
