Seoul Food
Building on its original outlet in the Korean complex on Sukhumvit Soi 12, Arirang (199/1 Sathorn Soi 12, North Sathorn Rd., 02-635-4772/3. Open daily 11am-2pm, 5-10pm) has recently unveiled its second branch. And just like its big sister, this three-story baby is impressive with wooden motifs, fancy tableware and carefully-planned private rooms. To accompany your BBQ family sets (B1,500 for beef, B700 for pork), order yourself a comforting bowl of chicken and ginseng soup (B350).
Cultural Fusion
Mahanaga (2 Sukhumvit Soi 29, 02-662-3060. Open daily 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-1am) has added Moroccan fl air to their restaurant (exotic pida chairs, red walls with silhouette Arabian doorways and lotus-inspired platters) and new dishes with no relationship to North Africa whatsoever: hor mok lobster (B1,000) and grilled NZ lamb rack with mango sauce (B550).
Catch Me If You Can
Sonie’s fans will know the road to real estate bliss for this restaurant has been a tumultuous one. The original outlet moved multiple times before ending up back where it all began at Sukhumvit Soi 31, while its second outlet in Playground! is no more. But despite everything, the eatery is trying to capitalize on its success and now opens its Thonglor branch at J-Avenue. A spacious restaurant with a sushi counter, the new Sonie’s (2/F, J-Avenue, between Thonglor Soi 15 and 17, 02-185-2970. Open Mon-Fri 11am-2:30pm, 5-10:30pm, Sat-Sun 11am-10:30pm) offers the same Japanese-Italian creations, but in a
more relaxing atmosphere.
