Nothing to do with Brad
Parisian café Angelina (3/F, Central Chidlom, Ploenchit Rd., BTS Chidlom, 02-793-7793. Open daily 10am-9pm) has arrived in Bangkok. The café is dolled up in virgin white with cutesy vintage details. The menu offers a light and modern take on classic French fare with its foie gras salad, black pepper steak, croque madame and molten green curry cake as the highlights. Don’t leave without trying its signature Mont Blanc (B110) and a cup of hot chocolate. Prices start at B150-550.
Thonglor Moon
Sitting in front of Thonglor Soi 20, Jan Jaow (946/18 Thonglor Soi 20, 02-714-7526. Open Mon-Sat 11ammidnight, Sun 4pm-midnight) is a shophouse-wide Thai eatery, outfitted with feminine touches: comfy seats, intimate lighting, lively hand-painted walls and smooth pop music. Try green curry with roti (B120) and deep-fried seabass (B280). Cocktails are B90-140. Free wifi on the mezzanine.
Another Year, Another Chef
The past few months have seen a change at the helm of Aubergine‘s kitchen (71/1 Saladaeng Soi 1/1, Silom Rd., www.aubergine.in.th, 02-234-2226. Open Mon-Fri 11:30am-2:30pm, 6-11pm; Sat-Sun noon-3pm, 6-11pm), with Executive Chef Jeremy Michel Lasserre taking over. The tone is still classic and Southern French—escargots in garlic butter (B240), pan-fried frog legs (B390) and boeuf bourguignon (B490).
Italian in Disguise
The name may sound Japanese, but IUTA (722/16 Soi Suanplu, South Sathorn Rd., 02-679-3952. Open Tue-Sun 5pm-1am) is an Italian “fashion club.” If its linguine with prawns and aspagarus in whisky sauce (B280) is too inventive for you, stick to more usual fare like bruschetta (B80) and pork loin steak (B360).
