In Town vs. Out of Town

Heineken is in the process of brewing a big foreign blood vs. local blood music face-off. They’ve finalized what really counts—a definite list of performers that will go head to head in three sets: funky jazz with Apartmenkhunpa and Osaka Monaurail from Japan, garage rock with Slot Machine and New York’s Aluminum Babe and pop rock/indie with Modern Dog and the UK’s Some Velvet Morning. Our very own Jay Montonn was responsible for traveling the world in search for these foreign acts, so we know who to blame if the event isn’t up to par! Pencil it in, Sep 27 but the venue is still unknown. We’ll keep you updated.

Do Good in Bed

The next time you go to Bed Supperclub to get wasted, you can actually feel good about it because for every B350 you spend indulging on alcohol, B50 goes to Lotus Flower Foundation. The organization, founded by Gabrielle Con Reding, aims to raise US$30,000 (nearly one million baht) to build a rehabilitation shelter for kids that have been victims of abuse in Nonthaburi. Looking to donate more? Visit their website at www.thelotusflowerfoundation.org.

Bring on the Munchies

According to an article by Julia Moskin in the New York Times, cocktail bars are increasingly resorting to high-end chefs to conjure up succulent snacks while you sip and slurp. We remember Patricia Yeo coming to Barsu—will others soon follow? There are already a lot of sophisticated tapas (such as at Cocktails and Cones, Glaz Bar’s monthly event) and food promotions (Wine Pub’s pasta and cheese nights) in Bangkok; but it’s not exactly fine-snacking, yet. This is one trend we’d love bars to follow!
