6th Fratello by Zeist

6th Fratello by Zeist

The buzz: Zeist has moved to Soi 19, but the owner and older brother, Art has kept things in the family by leaving the old location and a new restaurant in the hands of his younger sibling, Oat. Making his first foray into the restaurant business, the young chef and owner maintains the family tradition by cooking up European flavors for the hip crowd of Thonglor-Ekkamai.

The décor: With white tablecloths, cream-colored walls, some artwork hanging on the walls and a small bar at the back, this modest eatery is simple and orderly. A no-frills place for a good sit-down meal.

The cuisine: The menu is a mix between standard European dishes and Italian favorites. The recommended blue crab bisque (B190) is a good start with its delicate but flavorful taste. For the pastas, their angel hair pasta with garlic, chilli, basil and prawn (B230) is an honest dish, particularly for garlic lovers. For mains, the chef recommends the pan-fried Chilean sea bass served with sautéed spinach and mushrooms and lemon cream sauce (B490). For some sweetness, opt for his warm chocolate served with vanilla ice cream (B220).

The crowd: Young professionals, couples and the occasional family. The restaurant sees a mostly Thai crowd but expats are beginning to roll in.

The booze: A simple wine list with around 19 bottles ranging from B1,100-2,500. Corkage charge is B300.
